About This Experience
Deep in the Maya community of Tres Reyes, Doña Lucy opens her home and welcomes you in. You are here as a guest.
The morning starts with a traditional Maya snack: panuchos, tacos de sikil pak, chayitas fritas with cheese, cream and cabbage, and a fresh agua de Jamaica.
Then we learn. Doña Lucy walks you through every ingredient on the table, teaches you to make tortillas by hand, prepare salsa de habanero and the iconic sikil pak, the traditional Yucatan pumpkin seed sauce.
Then we build the pib. We light the fire together, heat the stones and bury the pot underground in the ancient earth oven that gives this dish its soul.
While the feast cooks underground we walk through the community of Tres Reyes, discovering daily Maya life, and head to Cenote Esmeralda for a refreshing swim in crystal clear water.
We return to Doña Lucy’s home where the cochinita or pollo pibil is ready. We sit down together and enjoy: slow-cooked meat, frijoles, arroz, salsa de habanero, cebollita curtida, agua de chaya and handmade tortillas.
Optional add-ons:
- Punta Laguna: A jungle walk through the reserve and the chance to spot spider monkeys and howler monkeys in their natural habitat.
- Pacchen: For the adventurous souls, canoes on the lagoon, swimming in a cenote, zip lines, rappel and a full adventure experience in this nearby Maya community.
